Star-Spangled Banner Written

Francis Scott Key wrote "The Defence of Fort M'Henry" after witnessing the British bombardment of Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor during the War of 1812. Set to music, the poem became "The Star-Spangled Banner" and was designated the national anthem by Congress in 1931.
