Massachusetts Ratifies the Constitution
Massachusetts became the sixth state to ratify the Constitution by a narrow vote of 187 to 168. To secure ratification, supporters agreed to recommend amendments protecting individual rights, a strategy that led directly to the creation of the Bill of Rights.
