Boston Tea Party
American colonists, many disguised as Mohawk Indians, boarded three British ships in Boston Harbor and dumped 342 chests of tea into the water to protest the Tea Act and taxation without representation. The act of defiance was organized by the Sons of Liberty.
Why It Matters
The Boston Tea Party was a defining act of resistance against unjust taxation and helped catalyze the revolutionary movement that led to American independence.
